my wife had a back surgery in 2015 in cape girardeau mo. by a neurosurgean who had done other back surgeries on her at the hospital. The one in 2015 was at his surgery center. My wifes insurance paid for most of the ones at the hospital they were tier 1 in network the one in 2015 was at his surgery center which we found out after the fact was tier 3 out of network .Before the latest surgery we met with him and asked if we'd do it at the hospital and he said we could do it at his center and we asked about insurance he said everything was taken care of so we believed him since we had a 10 year relationship with him .We found out later about him being out of network and insurance paid very little now we have received a bill for $156000 that he wants us to pay . What are our options in this situation
This is a very common occurrence. You need to hire a consumer debt defense attorney (many bankruptcy attorneys will do this too) to start negotiating with this surgeon. If you don't get aggressive with this, you will end up on the hook for the whole amount.
