I just found out today that there is a civil judgement against me for an eviction. I have nothing to do with this place or have no idea how they were able to file a case against me I have had no dealings with the landlord and now my credit is being affected and it’s hurting my chances to rent housing please help.
In addition to the consumer angle (as Mr. Edelman correctly pointed out), perhaps our LL-tenant members have some ideas, so I posted your Q for them.
You can contact an attorney to see if you can get the eviction vacated and/or sealed. You can also contest with the credit reporting agencies.
Though we strive to provide accurate legal information in our answers on AVVO, our answer should not be construed as legal advice and it does not create an attorney-client relationship. Our firm only forms attorney-client relationships by written agreement signed by both our firm and the client. Please seek an in-person consultation with an attorney immediately as almost all legal matters are time sensitive and failing to meet deadlines can result in adverse consequences.
Our Rating is calculated using information the lawyer has included on their profile in addition to the information we collect from state bar associations and other organizations that license legal professionals. Attorneys who claim their profiles and provide Avvo with more information tend to have a higher rating than those who do not. What determines Avvo Rating?Experience & background
