I was sentenced to $1900 in fines and DUI classes, then went to prison 2 months later for 2yrs for something else. I am out now and see that there was a warrant issued for my arrest for not paying the fines or doing the classes. What are the penalties and possible jail time for not paying DUI fines or completing assigned classes? Will there just be extra fines or will there be jail time and if so how long is the jail time typically.
You need to speak with a local criminal defense lawyer to help with these issues. It sounds like you were put on some type of probation/supervision to pay fines and do DUI classes. If you were and now that probation has been violated , then Yes, there is a possible county jail penalty for a violation. Again retain local counsel.
There could be extra fines as you may now be in collections with the court. The classes should be the same. You could be looking at the amount of time that was suspended (ie: 9 days if you pled to a first time DUI 10 days with 9 suspended). You should either consult an attorney with helping you quash the warrant or go to the court yourself and file a Motion to Quash the warrant.
Yes, you could be facing jail time but we can't determine how much over a forum like this. Contact a local dui lawyer for a case review.
