In 2013 in California, I plead guilty to a misdemeanor DUI charge. I was sentenced to 3 years probation, was to pay a fine, and was to take two alcohol related classes. I fled California for Alaska to avoid taking care of my obligations to which I now have a warrant for my arrest in California and am listed as a fugitive. I have since applied and won Social Security Disability benefits (SSDI) but I did not disclose having that warrant when I applied. Can Social Security take back my benefits and required me to pay back what they have given me if they find out?
Possibly. The SSA will not pay benefits to a fleeing felon, however, you speak of a misdemeanor charge. This link may assist you with finding an answer: https://secure.ssa.gov/poms.nsf/lnx/0202613001
