ADHD teen refuses to take meds; last 5 months he's been drinking, smoking and selling pot, won't do schoolwork. Shows no respect for rules and/or authority and recently ran off for 25 hours. I no longer feel safe at night and feel I am the one being abused verbally and emotionally. Can't trust him or what he might do next. He's going to counseling due to a MIP violation, not because he wants to. I am a disabled and widowed senior citizen. Would like to know how to handle this properly, I feel he needs more help than I can give. He just wants to hang out with older guys and wants no responsibilities when he does come home. He may also be huffing and has used DXM syrups to get high. He also likes to start fires and play with lighters, matches, etc. Will anyone listen to me?
If you are his legal guardian, you have certain statutory obligations to the "protected person". You also have the ability to make some decisions regarding the abode of the protected person and the health care administered. You will want to consult an attorney that specializes in guardianships.
