I work for a US company, have been on international assignment in Asia for 2 years and have re entry permit that expires in September. I was planning on applying for another re entry permit but my firm needs to switch me to local (Hong Kong) contract. I still intend to return to US permanently in 2019 and my firm has committed in writing to moving me back and finding me a role back in the US next year. I own an apartment in the US and intend to continue paying US taxes but have been told a re entry permit would be denied as I would be working for an overseas firm. Is this correct? Appreciate any advice, thank you!
