There is a un- registered and most likely un-insured contractor working in our town (Watchung NJ) the building department has been notified MULTPLE times about this issue. He is past his 30 day grace period. The state will not renew his license due to the fact that there is a judgment against him for over 25,000 dollars. I had the state send all the information to the towns building department to prove he is not legal to work
The state informed me that it is the code enforcer’s job to put in a stop work order
The code enforcer informed me that this contractor sues everyone and his brother, and does not know if it is his job to shut him down.
The Attorney general’s office tells me it is the code enforcer’s job
What can i do to get the law enforced?
What options do i have
Send a letter to the mayor and town council. Show up at town council meetings and ask why this is not being done. The enforcer has a RIGHT to shut him down, likely not an OBLIGATION to do so.
