I was awarded a judgment in another state against a person residing in Cook County. She is able to pay, but refuses to. In order to collect, I may have to transfer to judgment from the other state to IL, which is associated with hefty fees. Is it possible to have these fees added to the judgment? What would the procedure be?
There is a procedure for registration of a foreign judgment. The costs are added to the IL judgment. Hire a collection lawyer who knows what they are doing.
Google and review 735 ILCS 5/12-653 and 735 ILCS 5/12-655(a). The clerk will also charge a fee regarding sending the notice to the defendant via certified mail. Among other things, revival orders include the amount “with costs.” Good luck.
