stupid fix it tickets for a car i dont own or is even in possession of. now i have this huge amount to come up with so my license wont get suspended. i dont think its fair. i'm also on unemployment. theres no way i can pay the balance. i need my license. there has to be something i can do to lower the amount. the 3 tickets were 680. now there 3800. thats ridiculous.
It sounds like the fines went to collection and now you have added penalties, called civil assessments. You should contact a lawyer to go back to court and see what can be done. When did you get rid of the car?
I cannot tell if you ever went to court on these matters or not. If you did not- you will have to get holds lifted and get the matters put on calendar. Explain to judge what happened. Perhaps he would waive the civil assessments and reduce fines. If you already went to court you still want to try and get matter on calendar and request a reduction in fines and/or community service.
In addition to what the other attorneys have stated, if your fines are from prior to 2009, there is currently a 50% amnesty period. It lasts until June 30, 2012. If you pay half, they will forgive the other half.
