So, we were told a few weeks ago via a letter in the mail that the owner (not the landlord) of our house did not pay taxes for a while and either has to or the property will go on tax sale. We gave the letter to our landlord, and he said he'd get taken care of. We then got another letter a few days ago saying that the auction for the house will be on October 2nd. Today, a sheriff came to our house to put up a tax sale sign at the house. He talked to me and told me that if someone buys the house we will get one year before we need to move, and we can save our rent during that time to find a new place in a year. Is this true or was he wrong?
