My dad and I have the same name and for years the credit bureaus have been putting his bad credit on mine. They are making a bad name for me and I can't live a normal life because every time I try and get things cleared, the same thing happens again. I've been trying to consult with credit lawyers but no one will pick up my case in Las Vegas. I have proof to should that the bad credit isn't mine. Should I try to consult with a lawyer that deals with defamation or is it impossible to fight the credit bureaus. I can not get a loan, an apartment, a good job or anything because all my dads bad credit is making me look bad. Do I have a chance with this or should I just give up. This is ruining my life and I've had enough for years but can't find no help!!!
You need to see a qualified attorney in this regard. You have the right to have correct credit report. First, you need to send letters to all three credit bureaus telling them that you are a different individual than your father, and have a separate social security number. Tell them you are having a collateral damage because of drerogatory remarks on your dad's credit report. It is a complex and time consuming work. I suggest hire an attorney. Even though the net result is difficult to predict, but attorney may charge you his normal fees in this matter, and at the end you may not see very good result very soon. It would come with the passage of time. To rebuilt credit you need many other things: timely payment, better paying jobs, stability in addresses and of course a solid and better income. Read good financial magazines, and try to save more money, and watch good financial tv programs would better get you a grip on your finances.
