And now ofcourse he doesn't want to pay!! Apparently he blames the utitlity company for getting the wrong date and making the mistake.(so the utility company has started to send me the bills} I called the water company and asked them to move it back to his name before tthe lease was up, they said they could not, the problem is also that the billing cycle is frm the 15th- 15th of nxt month, the lease was over on the 31st giving this ever whining tenant another excuse to fuss about the payment. He was still under contract as tenant and supposed to pay all utilities.I do have a forward'g add. can I let his new appartmnt (management comp) know that he has unpaid bills? How and what can I do so the utility makes sure he pays all dues, and I don't have to run after him to pay these bills.
Most landlords require a security deposit in sufficient amount to cover any anticipated costs of a tenant who creates such troubles. If you didn't do that, you can likely prevail on a small claims case brought against the tenant. The utility company will not help you here. But if it's really for 1/2 month of water bills, you might just want to let this one go and move on with your life and let go of the bitterness and resentment and count it as a lesson learned.
