Im a 50 yr old single mom with a chronically ill daughter. She was relocated out of state due to her medical struggles. I was planning to be w/her but,a conflict in my divorce decree has kept me behind for awhile, due to my ex husband being retired military. Im sure you can understand that healthcare reform has not been beneficial for some, which is the case for my daughter. Numerous out of pocket expenses towards her care and me doing what I can in Michigan to stay afloat. Unfortunately, life tossed me another lemon this past week as I took 2 back to back falls at work. I am not one to want to file for outside help, but,I understand sometimes it might be the best thing to do. Looking for a legal representative to talk too and would only be paid for a win. I reside in Macomb County.
You should research a personal injury attorney near you. Slip and fall cases are difficult depending upon the circumstances because the courts have pretty much gutted the claims with the "open and obvious" defense. You can use the "find an attorney" feature here on AVVO or use Google to start your search.
Divorce is not the correct area of practice, so I have retitled it to personal injury.
You have more legal problems than anyone needs, those appearing to be marital relations, an ill child and now a personal injury (most likely a workers comp claim). Must attorney, including my firm, will offer a "free" consultation and potentially will work on a contingency basis for workers comp or personal injury cases. Domestic issues are generally on an hourly basis.
To the PROSPECTIVE client, please call with more details, and for an appointment. My PRELIMINARY answer to your question(s) is for general purposes and based upon the information you have conveyed. It is based on such limited information that it is a general answer, and should not be relied upon as a reason for your action or inaction. My response does NOT establish an attorney-client relationship and such may only be established by mutual agreement, and the signing of a written retainer agreement, which will generally require payment for our services, as this is what we do for a living and, just like you, we must get paid for our work.
I am not sure what type of lawyer you are seeking. If you want someone to represent you about your 2 falls at work, you want a Workers Comp lawyer. Find one in the AVVO list. Workers' Comp is the only recourse for workplace accidents. It is an exclusive remedy for you lost time and wages. You must notify your employer and ask him/her to file the claim on your behalf. If the employer refuses, then you call the State of Michigan, LARA, Workers Compensation and file your own claim. It is best to work through a lawyer though as suggested by the other attorney here. You also might want to report the working conditions to MIOSHA. It sounds like there is a real problem there. (This is not the same as a personal injury slip and fall)
I do not have sufficient information to answer your question specifically. I can only give you general information. By answering this question on a public forum, I am not accepting you as a client. We have not formed an attorney client relationship.
