I have already signed a contract to move into an apartment complex. I've already paid my deposit etc. I have submitted a formal request for a reasonable accommodation to have my emotional support/ Service- animal-in-training live with me at this new place. I have also supplied the apartment management a letter from my physician for the reason for the need for my dog as a medical device for my disability. The apartment complex has stated that I have to fill out other paperwork from their lawyers etc.
Without seeing either your doctor's letter, or their request for additional information, I can't answer. They have to be able to make an informed decision as to whether they are legally required to make the accommodation. You should speak with a local attorney, and bring the documentation.
This response is only general information and is not legal advice. It does not form an attorney-client relationship and should not be relied upon to take or refrain from taking any action. You should seek a qualified attorney before taking any action related to your inquiry.
