We incorporated a non profit organization with state of CT. The name of our organization used for incorporation was an abbreviation of the full name as example AMC Inc for American Motor Club. Our certificate of incorporation with the state clarifies the abbreviation for what it stands by using the full words next to the abbreviation.
However, around the same time another competing organization was registered in our state with the full name. Is there a way we can assert the usage of full name and have the other organization change their name?
Appreciate your reply and Thank you in advance. Thanks much for the replies. If I may have one more clarification as to whether the organization is non-profit makes it any different or complicated? Particularly because the objective of the organization (rather both organizations) is to celebrate and preserve a cultural cause and not to market any product or provide any explicit services for monetary gain. Does registration of the abbreviation and the full form as Trade Marks with secretary of state by proving first use evidence grants us exclusive use of the both names?
