Should I be charged for a free mammogram of $75 and put into collection for $178?
I've been told to go check my breast for this odd breast lump on the right as a suggestion to make sure it's not malignant. Went for a check up around August I was qualified for a free health services at Mecklenburg County Public Health center. I wasn't charged because I make 10,000 annually. They told I would get a call from Project Pink (I believe it was Atrium Health's program) they would call me at least 3 times. Had a call from the hospital first. Can't remember what happened but I told them I don't have insurance or money to go do the mammogram until Project Pink called.
I had gotten a call from Project Pink. They told me to come into the University Radiology Center on the 20th. Did my mammogram and ultrasound there. I was scheduled to do a biopsy next.
I went for the biopsy around October 3rd to finish the rest of the breast procedure. Another mammogram and ultrasound taken. 2 ladies took out 3 samples of my breast lump.
I got a bill for $75.98 for specimen. Billing Dept said they had to ask the supervisor. Never called back but I get an email. This service not free of charge?https://www.atriumhealthfoundation.org/projectpink/

An attorney would need to review all documentation and all fine print. I can understand being frustrated as you were told it was free...at $75.00 it could be most of it was free and other charges were not covered as the procedure you described really costs far more normally.
