Can I mail a response to a request for a restraining order to the courthouse or do I had to drive two hours each way and waste the second half of the day waiting in line to file?
You can mail it, but be aware that the clerks are weeks behind filing mailed documents sometimes. So it may not be processed quickly enough to do you any good. You can also pay a process server to do the filing for you. It should cost you perhaps $30-$50.
DVROs are serious things. Do not take them lightly or as an annoyance. It can ruin your future so treat it as such. The 4 hour trip is worth avoiding the many years of restraint and being placed in the police system, etc. Better yet, get an attorney immediately to help you wit this and they will file it.
