I got pulled over for a minor reason. Officer asked for ID and there was no problem since everything was in order. Then after running a check he came back and told me I had a warrant of arrest for theft. I am aware of this but I had been checking constantly and I never got any court date in the mail and last time I checked it was still pending. I told the officer this exactly and he let me go and told me he will have me picked up at my house some other time. I asked him if there was any way I can go to court and resolve it instead of getting picked up and he said yes and to contact the municipal court. This happened Friday night so i can't do anything until Monday. But I am so scared that the cops will come arrest me before then. What should I do?
If you want to avoid being arrested for an outstanding warrant, your best option is to call a bonding company and post a non arrest bond. This will remove the warrant and give you a new court date. Since you are worried, and i dont blame you, the sooner you do this the better. Once its processed, you will be given a new court date to appear to contest your charge or reuest deferred adjudication. The second option you have is to wait til monday and go to the court house and attempt to resolve your case on your own or explain your situation regarding the missed court date. However, should things not go your way, you could very likely be arrested since you have the outstanding warrant. You could also try to call the court on monday to see if you can resolve it that way. The best and fastest way is through a bonding company and then consulting with a criminal defense attorney about the underlying case.
