Likely you were released pending application of warrants. They maybe waiting for a drug lab report before filing any charges. Here is what you need to do meanwhile.
Do not speak to anyone about what happened other than your attorney or one you are seeking to hire. This includes on line sites such as AVVO. Remember that anything you say will be used against you.
Hire an attorney to help you! You can use the find a lawyer tab to locate one near you.
This answer is provided as a public service and as a general response to a general question, it is not meant, and should not be relied upon as specific legal advice, nor does it create an attorney-client relationship. Neither the Supreme Court of Missouri nor The Missouri Bar reviews or approves certifying organizations or specialist designations. The choice of a lawyer is an important decision and should not be based solely upon advertisements. Past results afford no guarantee of future results. Every case is different and must be judged on its own merits.
They may not arrest you until a lab report comes back identifying the substance. If you receive a notice to appear you will each need a criminal defense lawyer. If you got a ticket for driving while suspended you need a traffic lawyer now, because if you plead guilty to that charge you will get revoked for a year.
It sounds like you were released "pending application of warrants" which means the cops are getting their reports together to forward to the prosecuting attorney. For a felony, they have three years to charge you and/or your girlfriend. I suggest you retain an attorney that can start making some queries on your behalf to find out if charges are coming or not.
I also assume you got a driving while suspended ticket. You'll need to hire a traffic lawyer to walk you through getting that charge amended. You should be able to as long as you get your drivers license back. Your lawyer should be able to tell you how to do that. But you may want to start with a trip to the local drivers license bureau. Tell them you just found out you are suspended and want to get valid. What do I need to do? They should point you in the right direction.
Please be advised that answering questions on this webpage is done to provide general information only and that by responding to a question we have not established an attorney client relationship. In order to establish such a relationship we would need to meet in person and go over more details of your case. Thank you.
