Non-famiy Beneficiary, no will, family wants to prosicuit me for opening his mail while he was alive (will Ihis go to court?
I did not do what they are saying, in fact I do not recall ever even asking him to make me a benficary on his 401K and life insurance. He made this decision & told me I was a beneficiary. The family has proof of his mental conditions; first I heard of this. She assumed I guessed/knew this!
The sister said they have no choice but to prosicuit me for opening his mail; I had verbal permission to open his mail; was in charge of getting his bills paid. We were roomies for 17 years it was at the last year or two I did this chore for him, but had nothing in writing.
Additionally on his 401K which he told me I was the beneficiary, I did change his pin; with all the stress and my anxiety disorder I do not recall the entire conversation; I do recall the rep. told me to discuss the account I would need a pin #, so one was created,, seems this was allowed, I thought it was okay. I also want to know do I wait or proceed filling forms. More?'s Need consultation.

Yes you do need an immediate consultation. Are used to find a lawyer tab and contact and it’s for me as soon as possible before you are sued. You may have done nothing wrong but this is going to be very specific. You may have been the closest person to him and he may have had no relationship with his family. That could help you but again facts are going to matter here, get a lawyer
You are being bullied. They have bo ability to “prosecute” you for anything. If you were a caregiver, there’s is a presumption of undue influence. You’ll need counsel.
This is general advice. You are anonymous. If you PM me I won’t know what it’s about.
