We live in Fulton, NY and my husband has been dx with PTSD and Major depression r/t several on the job events. His dx was given by a forensic psychologist. He applied for a disability retirement through his tier 2 status in the New York State retirement system, and was of course denied. I have been unable to find an attorney in our area that works with this type of disability claim. It is not a ssdi type claim.
You need to look for a pension or employee benefits attorney. Also an ERISA attorney should be able to help you although ERISA does not regulate state retirement systems, but similar legal principles and concepts apply.
