This ticket carries 6 points, roughly a $200 fine and a $300 Driver Assessment Fee. If you plead guilty, you or your traffic lawyer can likely get this reduced to a less serious charge (saving you points and money). Further, this speeding ticket can adversely affect your insurance rates. By fighting it, you can likely avoid the possibility of your insurance rates being raised. Let me know if you have any other questions.

I am a former federal and State prosecutor and have been doing criminal defense work for over 16 years. I was named to the Super Lawyers list as one of the top attorneys in New York for 2012 and 2013. No more than 5 percent of the lawyers in the state are selected by Super Lawyers. Martindale-Hubbell has given me its highest rating - AV Preeminent - in the areas of Criminal Law, Personal Injury, and Litigation. According to Martindale-Hubbell”AV Preeminent is a significant rating accomplishment - a testament to the fact that a lawyer's peers rank him or her at the highest level of professional excellence." Fewer than 8% of attorneys achieve an AV Preeminent rating. I also have the highest ranking – “superb” – on Avvo. Attorney Weiss is correct. If you retain an attorney, and you have a good driving record, there is a strong possibility that you can get the ticket plead down to a parking ticket or two; or, at worst, a plead to a violation with less points. Good luck and an attorney will be worth the nominal investment.
