The USCIS conducts various kinds of background checks that disclose not only criminal conduct but also other relevant information, such as residential addresses. The USCIS does not disclose to the public (including to immigration lawyers) the exact resources it uses. In applying for naturalization, you should carefully identify all of your previous addresses during the relevant period of time (and you should anticipate that the USCIS adjudicating officer will be aware of previous addresses from other sources at the time of your naturalization interview and examination.
Compatible with Avvo policy, this communication does not create an attorney-client relationship and does not constitute legal advice. This communication is intended and should be regarded only as general information and should not be acted upon or relied upon until a formal attorney-client relationship may be established in writing.
The addresses information you list on your N-400 are used by USCIS during background checks in various databases which may disclose other addresses from arrest records, driver’s licenses, previous immigration filings, and other sources. There is no source you (or an immigration lawyer) can use to get all the correct addresses you should list on your N-400 form. You should simply list every address you lived at for the past 5 years. Not listing addresses may raise a red flag during a background check and come up during and consequently complicate your naturalization interview.
