My truck was total due to someone rear ending me and causing me to hit a utility pole. My insurance company gave me a check for the truck and the other persons insurance is covering the cost of the rental. They only gave me 10 days with it and I need more time because I cannot afford to buy another car and make payments on it since I had just paid off my truck. So basically they're going to leave me with no transportation to go to work or to go to my therapy appointments due to the accident.
Unfortunately, the personal injury part of your case may take a little time before you can get compensation. You should retain an attorney to assist with the process it might make it move faster. You are entitled to get compensation for your injuries and economic losses. If you received money for your car, you should use part of it as a down payment for another car.
Generally, once the offer is made and agreed upon, you are going to be on your own in paying for a rental vehicle.
If you were injured in the accident, your best bet to obtain the maximum settlement amount in this case is to consult with an attorney in your area to obtain a more specific answer and get all of your legal options before deciding what to do and then to ensure you have completed the necessary medical treatment. The attorney will also investigate all available coverages to ensure you have the maximum amount of coverage available to you. You may have some additional coverages on your own auto policy that can assist you of which you may not have been aware. You can use the "Find a Lawyer" link at the top of this page for names of attorneys in your area. Most offer a free consultation and work on a contingency fee basis, so you won’t have to pay anything up front.
Please do not message me for further advice or contact my former law firm in any way. If you are in need of an attorney to assist you, please search for another attorney in the jurisdiction involved in your case, as I am now retired, and my former law firm is no longer handling these types of cases. I am active on AVVO and answer questions only as a public service at this point.
