My complex called me the other day asking if i wanted to stay longer if they offered me a lesser monthly amount. I told them no amd that i was leaving. Then they tell me im required to give them a 30 day notice when i leave??? It say ENDS ON MARCH 31, 2017 So am i required to pay the next 14 days of rent beggining april 1 2017 so i can give my "30 day notice" or am i legally allowed to leavr since my rental agreement is up. I just dont understand why i have to give a notice of departure when my lease is up??? Theyre trying to charge me 890$ please help!!!!
It depends on what your lease says. If the lease is silent on the topic of notice, then you're right. The lease has a specific termination date, and that constitutes the end of the landlord/tenant relationship and that's that. If, however, the lease says that you have give notice of your intent to move out regardless of the termination date, then you have to give notice. But, if its not clear, and if your landlord was the drafter of the lease (which it probably was), then your interpretation of the lease stands.
