After serving 5 years on a 20/5 you should be released. Generally, as condition of a split sentence you will be released to probation or community corrections. There is no need to appeal your case to be released. If you are having trouble getting released you need to contact a skilled criminal defense lawyer to discussing your options. Fortunately, the trial court retains jurisdiction on split sentences while the split is being served. So a skilled lawyer may be able to file a motion to the trial judge to have you released if ADOC is not releasing you on time.
