I lived at my place less than a year I had a lease with the previous owner of a year. The new owner send us a month to month and raised my rent 595. Is that legal or what could I do
Your lease stays in effect until it expires, so you are only responsible for the amount of rent in the current lease until the year is up. Unless you live in a rent control jurisdiction, there is no limit on the amount of a rent increase. If the increase is more than 10%, the landlord must give 60 days notice; otherwise 30 days is all that is required. If you are intending on staying past the lease expiration, you should speak with an attorney ahead of time.
