back in December of 2015 I found out that my landlord was in for closure when stacks of letters from lenders and short sale buyers were coming to the house. so I called my landlord and asked was the house in for closure she said she knew nothing about what I was talking about and that she would call her lawyer to find out. well some friends was telling me that was a liar and she was definitely losing the house. so I called her back in January asking the same question and she still told me that it wasn't true. so I told her I was going to move because I didn't know what was going on and that I will be leaving by the end of February. I paid rent for January 2016. also I'm on the section 8 program and they said she had to send them a letter stating she was in for closure she didn't do that. also she was to give me a 90 day notice she didn't do that. she did a short sale on the house and I'm wondering if I can get my security deposit back because she did a short sale on the house or could she use it towards the rent that I didn't pay for February through April 23rd?
Your landlord probably has no obligation to tell you that she may be facing foreclosure - at least not until there actually is a sale and you might need to move out. She also has no obligation to answer your questions about that issue.
If you moved out before the end of your lease, your landlord might be able to apply your deposit to any unpaid rent left on the term. Since you gave notice, I am not sure the landlord would need to give you any sort of notice - you told her you were leaving and you left.
Whether you are entitled to any refund on the security deposit would require you to meet with a local landlord tenant attorney.
