You can hire a real estate attorney in the state where the property is located to review the records including the chain of title and advise you. Interfamily transfers are sometimes done privately without the outside scrutiny that a mortgage company would bring to the transaction.

I would be wary of any site like courtrecords.com. However, assuming that you are right about your ownership interest, it would baffle the mind that anyone would be willing to purchase it, let alone insure it, without you being involved. That said, bizarre cases come up all the time so it is not outside the realm of possibility that a fraudulent transaction has occurred.
I think you're going to need to seek out an attorney to first find out if you actually have any possessory interest, and, second, to take action if you do.
