I paid a criminal lawyer a $1500 retainer fee to get my husband a bond or release. He only spoke to him for 20mins total for two days. And refuse to give me anything back. In the end we took the deal given by the state appointed lawyer. He will not give me an explanation or invoice on what the money was spent on. What do I do.
You should look to the engagement agreement to see what the original attorney was entitled to earn for his services. Many criminal defense attorneys charge flat-fees for their work.
If you are unable to resolve the issue with the attorney then you can contact the state bar's client attorney assistance program (CAAP) for help.
