Call the police and have him arrested. I'm licensed in California although you ought to have some form of CPS (Child Protective Services) in your state. I would also consult with a lawyer licensed in your state right away about modifying custody. This is a dangerous situation for your child.
I am not particularly opposed to the idea of corporal punihment applied by a parent. This is unacceptable, IMHO. As Ms. Johns suggested, see family law practitioner in NC.
If there are any marks left on the kids, these should be documented.
You may need to either have kids seen at a lcal doctor/hospital or hire a PI to properly photograph so that there is no doun=bt as to who any maerks belong to.
