My Ex husband has no parental rights to our son, he only has supervised visitation to which he has never utilized (all court ordered). I don't receive child support regularly, he's $16,500 behind in child support. he has never tried to contact our son since June of 2014. I am re married and my husband is an amazing father and role model for my son. we were talking about him adopting my son. My question is, what is the adoption process for situations such as this?
Adoptions can be rather complicated. You would want to begin with attempting to terminate the father's parental rights under North Dakota Century Code CHAPTER 27-20 UNIFORM JUVENILE COURT ACT and then more to adoption proceedings North Dakota Century Code Chapter 14-15 REVISED UNIFORM ADOPTION ACT.
I hope this helps! With adoptions, you certainly should consider hiring a licensed attorney.
