My ex and I were together for just under four years, and during that time, we had to put down his dog who was 4y8m old. 6 months after we broke up and the dog passed, we sealed the dog in an urn together and he gave me a dime-size amount of ashes to keep in a tiny vile since the dog was as important to me as he was to him. Now that I have moved on and have been attempting to stop talking to him, he’s now demanding the ashes back and threatening to sue. I have text proof of him acknowledging he gave me the ashes and has been wishy-washy with his answers. He’ll say “if you’re not going to give him back then fine” but then turn right around and say “actually I do want him back now if that’s how you’re going to be” when I told him to never contact me again.
No. Tell him to pound sand. A gift, once accepted, cannot be taken back.
