My old employer has not mailed me my last check. I quit my job without notice for personal reasons. When I knew I was supposed to get paid on 11/22, I checked my account and had not received payment. I assumed I was getting a check in the mail. It’s been 2 weeks and still no check. I contacted my employer and he said I had to make an appointment to come pick up my check and drive up there and get it from him personally. I work a full time job and I have a 6 year old in kindergarten. I honestly don’t have time to drive to another COUNTY to pick up a paycheck. He says it’s company policy that an employee has to pick up their last paycheck from him personally if they quit or get fired. I have never heard of this policy. And I don’t think I signed or read anything that stated this. I told him to just mail it to me and he said he won’t. Honestly I don’t want to waste my gas driving 45 mins away to pick up one thing and also I don’t want to have any kind of confrontation with him. He keeps bringing up me quitting so I’m assuming he’s just mad about that and that’s why he’s not paying me. I told him I will contact department of labor and he says for me to do whatever I fill fit.
If he is offering you payment, my suggestion is that you bite the bullet and go pick it up. It would be an entirely different matter if he was refusing to pay you.
