I was at a club in hollywood on Saturday with friends. I was the only one under 21. One of the guys in our group offered to get me alcohol, and I said ok. I gave him my water cup and he filled it up with vodka, i walked away and 1 second later a bouncer came to take me to the back where a LAPD cop wrote me a ticket. I didn't drink anything but I did take the cup and walk away so technically I was in possession.
I don't mind taking classes, community service, or paying a fee.... but i really can not lose my license for 1 year because I work full time and go to school. I've heard about diversions for these types of things and I wanted to know if this was a option for me? And do I need a lawyer to eligible for diversion? What are my options here?
I think it's best that you consult with a lawyer and allow them to review your case and advise you in a confidential setting of your options. Most of us offer free consultations, so it may be worth it to reach out to a few of them. Good luck.
Options? Your best option is to retain counsel because your driver's license hangs in the balance. Be more careful at the club. By the way, how did you get in if you're under 21?
San Diego Criminal Defense Attorney--20 years experience
You're facing a lengthy drivers license suspension. Contact a local criminal defense attorney who can review the facts of your case. I would not recommended taking this on by yourself.
