We rented a house sight unseen in Bettendorf. We moved in to find it had an ant infestation caused by a rotten back deck. We have requested the deck be repaired, as well as the exterminator stated to them it was the cause of the ants. It has been 2 months since we have moved in and the deck is still not fixed and they say they are having trouble getting quotes because the owner only authorized a certain amount of money. the deck is a safety hazard with popped up nails, rotten and broken boards, and broken railings / spindles. Are we able to repair and deduct from rent or break our lease based on the an addressed issues with the house? There are also rotten / leaking windows that they have not fixed either. What are our options?
I could see it going both ways. It really depends on how bad the issue is and whether it impacts the habitability of the residence.
