Currently I am on L1B and I maxout on June 2012, my employer told me that L1B to L1A COS should be approved six months before my maxtout date, is that correct ? is there any other alternative like premium processing etc
It needs to be filed six months before the L-1B expires in order to ensure that your employment is not interrupted. Sure, premium processing is an option, but it is an expensive option.

You should talk to an immigration attorney. This is case-specific and someone needs to look at your COS papers with you.
