Recently engaged though the wedding is not for some time. Probably a common question but I make significantly more then my partner. Trying to be smart in the event something happens to the marriage. Is a prenup the only method to keep assets separate during the marriage? Does every asset while married automatically become marital property or are there other methods to keep the property separate during marriage besides a prenup?
A prenuptial agreement is the best course of action. There are some limited ways to maintain separate premarital property and assets but the possibility of blending the line and/or getting caught with an active or passive appreciation can cloud the matter. Best course of action is to meet with a financial planner and family lawyer to see what your options are.
