I just signed a contract for 1 year a pest control company. I should have googled them first. They are notions for not following contracts and poor customer service.. I feel swindled. I froze my credit card to freeze activity. I would just want to pay a cancellation fee. Is there anything they can do to me legally? No services have been rendered.
Depends on the contract terms--if you are allowed to "just" pay the cancellation fee, then you should be fine. To be sure, have a lawyer review your contract. Good luck!
Answer given for general advice and is not a legal opinion, which would require an analysis of the facts and circumstances as well as the applicable law and regulations.
In virtually all contract situations the contract terms control, so that, an attorney would have to read the actual document you signed to see what could/would/should happen. To hopefully help you a bit, here is a list of statutory contract cancelation rights in CA: http://www.dca.ca.gov/publications/legal_guides/k-6.shtml
THe only thing that they can do legally is sue you for breach of contract. THe best course is to send written cancellation and see what they do. The contract should state what occurs if you cancel it.
