I have passed background checks for jobs and payed off tickets and renewed my license and have no idea who or what could be suing me but have had old creditors call me and my family and work in order to collect debts that have been sold to many different creditors and that i have contested on my credit history id there any way to check to see if anything is filed against me
Sure, go to the courthouse and ask the court clerk to run your name and let you look at any files that pop up. Bring plenty of cash to pay for copies of the records, as courts charge a pretty penny to make copies for you. Last time I checked, they do not accept debit cards or checks. Hope this perspective helps!
No private follow up questions or comments. Use this public forum so all the attorney volunteers can respond. The "Email" button can be used to arrange a consultation if you meet the criteria my office requires.
If there is a lawsuit filed against you, it will be listed in an index at the courthouse. Some courts allow you to search online. The court filings are public records.
If you receive a telephone call from someone who claims to be a process server and tries to scare you into paying money, it is a scam. Process servers just go out and deliver papers. If you receive a Summons, you will have at least 30 days to file your written response from the court.
