Me and my husband were renting to own a home on a lease for deed our agreement was 15,000 for home since it needed fixing up and we were buying as is . we put everything into this home although it still needed more fixing up. then find out last month owner had not paid property taxes since 2008 we had about 8 months left to pay off home..or so we thought! even though it said in our lease that seller is responsible for paying taxes he did not do so and did'nt plan on it either we felt dumb! this was our home so we had to go and rent another home and now im not sure i can get my money back he kept texting and asking for key so my husband gave it to him...can i sue him for what we already paid?? which is about 12,000??? somone help we are clueless this left us in debt
Why did you go and do a ridiculous thing like give up the home you bought and paid for, because the prior owner didn't pay the taxes?
And why did he give him back the keys?
You need to retain a lawyer and sue the guy for breach of contract. I would've paid the back taxes, set off what was owed, and sued for any money the guy owed me.
Click on "Find a Lawyer" locate an attorney in your area who handles Contracts for Deed, and sue the dude.
In the future, talk to a lawyer before you go off and do anything crazy. Now you're starting from scratch all over again.
