My underage roommate isn’t on my lease and while it started off well, her need to try and throw parties where her and her underage friends get drunk when I’m not home makes me more and more nervous. She’s a good kid at heart and I feel like if she were on the lease, she’d get it together because she’d be more liable for her actions. We are about two months into the lease. Is there a way to add her to it in? And if she does get busted for doing something illegal, am I still liable for actions in the apartment?
You have this "twisted"!!!!! You want to take action to evict her NOW. She is only trouble for the rest of your time on this lease. She has nothing to lose. Being a minor, she cannot be bound contractually. You will be the one who suffers when things continue to get worse..... with the landlord, other tenants nearby, or "a guest", who gets injured or in an accident. Forewarned! Give her a 30-day written notice to quit. If she fails to move, then begin a landlord-tenant action in district court.
