i wrecked my car in dec 2007 and was uninsured. I damaged a guard rail and tx dot sued me for almost $5000. The judgement was made in sept 2009. They now have a lien against my license therefor it is suspended. What can i do to get my license back? they refuse to set me up a payment plan. Im a single parent of 2 babies and a full time student. I need my license in order to take care of my kids.
There is no statute of limitations after a judgment is taken against a person. The judgment will last for ten years and then it can be renewed for another ten years, and so on. Normally you can ask DPS to allow a payment plan to payout the judgment. Contact Texas Department of Public Safety. If they cannot assist you, contact General Legal Counsel for TxDOT and ask them for a payout plan.

A statute of limitations governs the time in which you must file a lawsuit. This means that once the suit is started, there is no SoL issue.
The aforementioned opinion does not constitute legal advice and is for general informational purposes only. See an attorney licensed in your jurisdiction for competent legal advice. No attorney-client relationship has been formed through the within legal question and answer session.
A judgment can be refreshed after 10 years. If you can borrow money from family and friends, you may have to do so.
