I was let go from my job over 6 weeks ago. The day it happened my boss told me he would pay me 2 weeks severance, but I would need to sign something from his attorney. He says his attorney is still working on it. Nothing is in writing but I have it in a text from him and a conversation was recorded. Is there any way to get him to pay sooner rather than later or do I just have to wait around until it's convenient for him?
There’s really not a deadline for severance pay. However, it is discretionary on the employer’s end. If you feel like you were wrongfully terminated, you could file an EEOC charge (and that might speed up the process for getting severance). You should talk to an employment lawyer to discuss your options.
