When applying on-line for an EIN# for my now deceased mother's living trust (now irrevocable) I enter my name and SS # for Responsible person. However, on the summary page just before clicking submit - the wording "responsible person" is now changed to "grantor". Am I now the grantor of the trust since my mother died or is this a flaw in the IRS website's on-line tool.
Your mother was the Grantor. If you are the trustee, then you are the responsible person. If you are not sure how to do this --- and it sounds as though you are having difficulties, it would be prudent to engage the services of an experienced trust and probate law attorney who can advise you on this and other matters. Good luck!
