I am a bus driver. Today a woman was walking down my aisle and the bus jerked a bit...She stumbled forward and I put my arm put to prevent her from flying through my windshield and my arm touched her arm. I didnt grab her, I just put my arm out. she was an older lady. She seemed pretty shocked. I dont know if it was because she almost fell or if it's because I put my arm out. I feel pretty uneasy about it and dont want any wrongful claims against me.
Is this assault?
This would be extremely unlikely, for a bunch of reasons I won't go into. Also unlikely to result in a criminal action.
We live in a litigious society, but this fact pattern would be pushing things a little too far. Rest easy, friend. You did a good deed and this one will not be punished.
