I work for the county, in an office setting. We have no time clock or punch station. We all simply fill out time sheets and turn them in every two weeks. Despite our shift being scheduled 8-5pm most people show up within ten minutes of the 8:00 am mark and simply keep their timesheets as 8:00 am. Things have always been considered lenient...at least to my understanding as I just started two months ago. Long story short, I showed up to work at 8:03 am...my office manager then made me wait three minutes during my lunch break before taking off....to make up for the time. She has also asked that I come in earlier than 8:00 (which I can't put on my timesheet). She also has it required that I e-mail her that I am in the office as timestamped proof of me being on time.....in order to do that it requires a few minutes of preparation as I have to turn the computer on and log into the county system. No one else has to fulfill these obligations in the morning. I feel singled out. Is this just my boss being a jerk, or is it potentially unethical?
Okay, I am going to need some additional information. First, did the same supervisor who is singling you out hire you 2 months ago? For the "singling out" to be considered illegal or actionable discrimination, it must b e based upon some impermissible characteristic such as your age, race, gender, national origin, religion, health, weight, height, and a couple of others. Have you recently refused to violate some law? Have you recently reported or complained about some violation of a rule or regulation by a co-worker? Usually, when you see this kind of change in how you are being treated there is a precipitating event. The trick is figuring out if that event is something we can use to establish illegal discrimination and/or retaliation. If you provide additional information I can probably give you a more specific answer or give some assistance on how to proceed.
