My brother had 3 grams of marijuana in his car in New Jersey. Harassed by police and then his public defender made him plea to a Conditional discharge. ($800 fine and 6 months probation).
Probably not, but he will have to do an appeal if time still allows or PCR if time doesn't and if you thought it was expensive to hire a lawyer for the original charge appeals are generally 10X the cost.
You have to file a motion with the court but the standard is very difficult so it can get expensive and there's no guarantee of a win but if you have the money to give it a shot then hire a lawyer.
It will be difficult and more expensive than the case itself would have been. The standard to withdraw a plea when represented is immense. An appeal is unlikely to be successful.
Much more information is needed. If he had MJ in his car the CD may have been a good deal. He likely had a 4-49.1 also and could have lost his license for 2 years. Did the PD have a gun to his head? He likely thought the deal was good for him.
