I purchased a vehicle in 1999 for $6500 I defaulted on the loan. The debt has been sold 3 times it is now with RJF Financial. They garnished my wages 5 years ago but because my child support maxed what could be taken they could only get 37 cents per week. Since then I have switched jobs. My child support is paid in full. My wife and I just had a $678 lein put on our checking account from RJF. They are staying we owe $18000. How can they do this? And my current wife is not who I was married to at time when I purchased the vehicle.
Some fees can be added to a debt. Some cannot. You may be able to shield some assets due to the debt not being a current community debt. You should consult with a consumer defense attorney.
