I'm getting threatened by clocking in 6 minutes before my shift starts and ends. I have to walk almost the whole length to get to my position as greeter for a big box store, plus I have to get off my street clothes and put on a company vest and walk from the locker room to at least 30,000 sq feet to my position at either the main exit or entrance. Is this legal to demand exact time either way?

You are to get paid for all the time you actually work. I'm not sure from your description, but you can wait by the clock and clock in at the time they tell you, and then go check in an put on your vest, and then walk up and greet. You will be getting paid for all that time. They cannot tell you to go in and change your clothes, walk to the door to greet and then clock in.
It appears you are being paid for all the time you are walking etc. The fact that you will be at the front door 6 minutes after it opens is their problem. They do not want to pay you more than either 29 hours a week or 40 hours a week. Those are the magic numbers.
